Help Us By Prayer

It’s October and the Jacaranda trees are blooming. For the last nine months we have been able to use the garage of the home we are renting in Nairobi as the meeting place for Sovereign Grace Church Nairobi. For that we are so grateful to God! After 40 Sunday services, lunches on the lawn, and soccer games next to the banana trees, it has come to an end. Not the end of the church, no! But on Sunday afternoon Jonathan received a call from our landlord saying we were in violation of our lease by holding church services at our home and ordered that we must stop immediately. Security has been notified not to let our people through if they come on Sunday. Thus we have come to the end of this season of our young life as a church.

Isn’t that exciting?! Okay, I have to admit, I was pretty frustrated with these conversations yesterday. I wanted to defend our right to sing six songs, to pray, hear God’s word preached, take communion, and fellowship together (all without any PA system) in our home that we are renting, for a considerable price I might add! Once I was calmed down, the Lord helped me remember that he is still in control, that he is faithful, and that he still loves and cares for us. Now I really am excited to see what God will do!

Here’s where you come in. Would you pray with/for us this week (2 Corinthians 1:11)? Tomorrow (Tuesday), Pastor Brian, Victor (our pastoral resident for worship) and I have a meeting regarding a possible venue in Westlands. We’ve actually been in contact with them for a few weeks, but now our situation is more urgent. We need a place to meet this Sunday! Pray that if this is the place God would have for us that there won’t be an issue with the owner of having services each Sunday, that we can come to an agreement on a price that’s affordable, and that everything can come together in the next few days so we can communicate the new location with our church and that Sunday would be a celebration of God’s faithfulness indeed!

Pastors College

We also wanted to update you that we sent three men to Pastors College in Ethiopia for one year. We had a commissioning service on September 7 and sent them the next Saturday, September 13. Each of them are loving the classes and the community so far, and are doing well. Although we miss them and can’t wait to have them back, serving at SGC Nairobi, we are so grateful for the ability to send and prepare them for pastoral ministry.

End of Year Giving

Lastly, as you all think about your end of the year giving, we would ask you to consider us. God has been very kind to meet all our financial needs so far through many of you giving each and every month. That’s not easy for some of you. Thank you! However, we’ve never actually been 100% supported on a monthly basis. We’ve relied on greater than normal giving, usually at the end of each year, that helps make up for the shortages that happen most months. While we’re not in panic mode, we do see the balance getting lower as we get closer to the end of the year.

If you give monthly, would you consider giving an extra monthly gift sometime in the next three months? If you don’t currently give, would you consider making a one-time contribution, or even beginning to give monthly? And for those who give yearly, we appreciate you remembering to do that each year!

As always, thanks for your partnership in the gospel. And to encourage that partnership even more we invite you to come, visit us, and worship with us at Sovereign Grace Church Nairobi, Lord willing in our new venue!

Praise Him for 3 in seminary training!
Praise Him for His sovereign “move” of your Family! Lord make Your plan clear for Your Family’s new home, Lord and move hearts of Your people to give financially as You direct.
In Jesus we come to You.
